Older workers are now welcome across many sectors, which is a major change from five or more years ago.
This does not say that all employers embrace mature age candidates, however change has been slow but starting to reflect in employment statistics.
Major companies in particular now have specific policies to ensure that older workers are actively recruited and included in their staffing initiatives. Smaller businesses lag in this area and it will need top down pressure to make medium size organisations recognise the benefits of hiring older workers.
With an ageing workforce and skills shortages occurring it makes a strong business case to employ older people who are experienced and bring practical wisdom into the workplace.
