Salary negotiation strategy

Salary negotiation strategy

Having worked with numerous job seekers over the years I have seen many people take less money and benefits in fear of losing an opportunity or job...this also applies to senior executives.

You do not get the remuneration you deserve...you only get the remuneration you negotiate, so never take the first offer. HR people are skilled at manipulating and driving down salary packages and are handsomely rewarded for doing so.

Conduct extensive research and know your REALISTIC "value to the market", and refrain from discussing salary until an offer is near.  Ensure that you only discuss salary with the person who has the authority to negotiate your package and hire you.

Don't immediately accept the first offer...because that is what it is THE FIRST OFFER.  Simply say that you will do your research and come back to them within 24 hours.  You will gain more respect and have a chance to modify the offer by using this technique.

If you take $10,000 less to get the ideal job to think about the consequences. Your salary is then pegged to your current remuneration level...so taking $10,000 less actually multiplies out to $100,000 less over the next ten years. $100,000 of YOUR MONEY (try to honestly explain and justify that to your partner).

Employment is like a marriage with both parties needing to be happy with the arrangements, and if they are not we all know the tragic results that flow...
